Satoshi Hijikata joined Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. in 1985. In 1997, Hijikata became executive officer, and then executive director, after holding management positions in Kokusai Kogyo’s domestic Commercial Ports, Fishing Ports, and Seashores Division (Engineering Section, West Japan Branch) and the Strategic Planning Division (Local Government Support Section). Hijikata then served as managing director of one of Kokusai Kogyo Group’s international group companies, GEOSOL Beteiligungsgesellschaft mbH, Germany, from 1999 to 2012.

After returning to Kokusai Kogyo as executive officer, Hijikata was appointed President of Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd. in May 2013.Hijikata is currently serving as vice-chair of the Association of Precise Survey and Applied Technology since 2014, board member of the Engineering and Consulting Firms Association since 2014, and board member of Japan Civil Engineering Consultants Association since 2014.

Hijikata graduated from Tokai University, School of Marine Science and Technology, Department of Marine Mineral Resources, in 1985. He holds qualifications as GIS engineer (Spatial Information Specialist, Japan Association of Surveyors), Professional Engineer (comprehensive technical management; civil engineering – harbor and airports), professional surveyor, and Special Radio Operator.  

Disaster risk reduction activities

Satoshi Hijikata began his career at Kokusai Kogyo as a marine engineer, working on DRM solutions for harbors and ports. Since 2013, as president, Mr. Hijikata oversees our entire range of technological solutions, including DRR and DRM. He has served as liaison to the government emergency task force for every major disaster since the Hanshin Kobe Earthquake in 1995, at local, prefectural, or national level, depending on the disaster. He learned how DRR and climate change interact in practice and policy, as managing director of a German solar energy company. Satoshi Hijikata brings to ARISE a thorough knowledge of DRR in Japan, combined with a global awareness.
