ARISE Philippines scales up hands-only CPR training in Rizal amid rising risks of cardiac arrest
ARISE Philippines, partnering with the Department of Health’s Health Emergency Management Bureau (DOH HEMB), has expanded its Hands-Only CPR Orientation Training to Rizal province, reaching 250 participants across two batches in Taytay and Angono.
Key training details
Delivered by expert instructors from DOH Hospital Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center and the Bureau of Fire Protection National Headquarters, the sessions followed DOH HEMB’s standardized protocols. Tailored for laypersons, the short lectures emphasized high-quality, chest-compression-only CPR—excluding full Basic Life Support competencies—to equip communities for sudden cardiac arrest emergencies, which claim thousands of lives yearly in the Philippines, often in homes and crowded malls like those hosting these events.
This Rizal rollout marks the 13th batch since last year’s pilot, with mall walk-ins welcomed per the directives of ARISE Philippines Chairperson Mr. Hans T. Sy. His vision prioritizes capacitation for both business sectors and the wider communities they serve, fostering grassroots readiness.
Objectives and outcomes
The training aims to build competencies for effective Hands-Only CPR, empowering quick, confident responses that boost survival rates in cardiac arrest cases. It forms part of ARISE Philippines’ broader Hands-Only CPR Awareness Campaign with DOH HEMB, targeting the country’s high incidence of out-of-hospital cardiac events.
Alignment with global DRR frameworks
This initiative supports the UNDRR Strategic Framework’s catalytic areas of Risk Management and Locally-led DRR. By embedding life-saving skills in everyday settings, ARISE Philippines addresses non-structural risks that amplify disaster impacts.
