These are examples of ARISE member led projects across the four global priorities.
Learn more about voluntary commitments
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments online platform (VC platform) captures partner contributions towards Sendai Framework implementation, and fulfils the mandate given by the United Nations General Assembly.
Natural hazards and climate change affect infrastructure by destroying or damaging assets, placing human populations at risk, increasing operation and maintenance costs, and reducing revenues and socioeconomic benefits. If infrastructure is made more resilient, these impacts can be reduced. Learn more about this priority.
How-to manual for field operators: drone-based infrastructure monitoring of coastal DRR infrastructure and agricultural water utilities.
Collaboration with CDRI by the Japan Bosai Platform.
Analysis and evaluation of disaster risk:
(1) location-based hazard information dashboard and evaluation for corporate clients
(2) flood risk support service (early warning levels, predictions based on mesh, site visits to evaluate risk and advice on countermeasures)
(3) landslide risk diagnosis service (landslide simulations based on past max rainfall)
Development of smartphone apps (1) cmap.dev for realtime estimates of building damage/rates by LG unit, for typhoons, heavy rains, and earthquakes, (2) risk management app that suggest prevention tips, and guides evacuation during disasters.
Upgrading clients' DRR capability by introducing On-site Water Treatment and Supply System, using membrane filtration technology, which utilizes water sources such as groundwater, surface water, etc.
The (re-)insurance industry has a critical role to play in DRR. With risk at the core of its business, the industry has an opportunity to lead both from an insurance/liability side as well as asset management to change the current single hazard, short-term business approach of the sector and encourage risk-informed business management strategies and practice. To realize risk-informed investment by the private sector at large, influencing the financial sector is a key leveraging point. Engagement in the ongoing global momentum under the SDGs and climate discussions offers the opportunity for the integration of disaster and climate risk into financial sector investment decisions. 40-60% of SME do not recover from a disaster; at the same time SMEs represent over 80% of any national economy and are closely linked into community structures. They are therefore critical for the resilience of countries and communities; lastly SMEs recognized drivers of innovation which is key to changing our approach to DRR. Learn more about this priority.
