The workshop on Technology for Disaster Risk Reduction, held on October 10th and 11th at Belmont University, aims to address the escalating impacts of natural and human-made disasters. Recognizing the critical need to harness technology for effective disaster risk reduction (DRR), this event aligns with the Sendai Framework (2015-2030). It will bring together stakeholders from various sectors, including private, civil society, government, and academia.

As part of the subgroups of the Regional Scientific and Technical Advisory Group (RSTAG), we have been actively working to advance our understanding of technology's role in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR). The discussions during the workshop will help define three key areas:

  1. The role of technology in DRR
  2. Guiding principles for the design, use, and adoption of technology for DRR
  3. Identifying the different types of technology that will be considered in the special report
