Lizra Fabien is the Focal Point for ARISE Dominica and the former Executive Director of the Dominica Association of Industry and Commerce (DAIC). As the executing agency for ARISE and the leading private sector representative body in Dominica, DAIC fosters economic growth and social development with significant commitment to the resilience of the business community.
With over a decade of experience in private sector development, Lizra has also been a strong advocate for Disaster Risk Reduction through the network of Caribbean Chambers of Commerce (CARICHAM) and is currently a Board Member of the UN Global ARISE Network.
Lizra is currently the Caribbean Project Manager for the Organisation of American States project, “Economically Empowered Women for Equitable and Resilient Societies” being implemented across six Eastern Caribbean Countries.
Disaster risk reduction activities
DRR activities: Lizra Fabien led the launch of the ARISE network in Dominica, with recognition as the first English speaking Caribbean country to launch this initiative. Based on efforts to enhance DRR and resilience in Dominica, they hosted a Business Recovery Expo following one of the most devastating hurricanes in the region. She also led the Chamber to host a Sustainability Symposium with focus on building on the competencies established from the previous initiatives of the Chamber. This, among several other initiatives has been a central part of the Chamber’s thrust to support the Government in establishing Dominica as leader in resiliency.
Additionally, Lizra Fabien has supported CARICHAM Chambers and ARISE networks in the Caribbean who sought assistance in enhancing their DRR plans. Through CARICHAM, she has also supported enhanced collaboration and information sharing with regional partners as well as led the development of the CARICHAM Business Resilience Toolkit and CARICHAM Center of Excellence.
Through the ARISE Global Board, Lizra has led the efforts of the global membership to contribute to the Sendai Framework Mid-Term Review process.
